The course helps parents separate their personal conflicts with each other from their roles as parents. In recognizing that they will be in each other's lives for as long as they have children, parents can begin to look at how mutually vital they are to their children. Throughout the program, parents are made aware that it is expedient for themselves and imperative for their children to act respectfully to each other. We believe in the KISS method- Keep It Simple for Students
Students log-on to our secure website http://course.onlinedivorceprogram.com/ and begin reading and learning the same information available through classroom instruction. Parents, Children & Divorce's workbook includes interactive exercises, audio and video clips. For more information regarding our course material click on our table of contents.
Students are able to use any computer with an Internet connection. They can use one computer from home and a different computer from work.
There is a 4-hour requirement for taking an online course, and the student does not have complete the program in one sitting. A student may log-on and off at anytime, the course remembers where the student left off and how much time was spent on each section.
After a student has completed the program and the court's requirements, two certificates of completion will be sent to the student, one that is to be filed with the Clerk of Court where the petition has been filed and one for the student's record.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
- To help parents see divorce or the ending of their relationship as a family matter, rather than an adversarial legal case
- To encourage the empowering of parents so that they may make choices for themselves, and their children, rather than having decisions imposed upon them by attorneys and the courts
- To help parents learn alternative ways of resolving conflicts, rather than using the courtroom as a battlefield for unresolved divorce issues
- To show parents how to recognize when there is a direct correlation between rage, fear, and the need for control, as they relate to custody and visitation issues
- To educate parents that their retribution and condemnation of each other can dramatically affect their children's development and adjustment, and cause long lasting negative results
- To help parents identify and cope with their individual traumatic emotions as they go through a divorce or separation process
- To help parents understand their children's reaction to separation and divorce, and how they might help the children process their feelings and experiences
- To help separating and divorcing parents establish new boundaries, and to behave more appropriately in their new roles with each other and their children

Some courts/judicial circuits do not accept a Certificate of Completion from a class taken on the Internet, so please ask your legal advisor to check with the court/judicial circuit where your divorce has been filed to see if court will accept an online course.
